Pattern Indexchecked & dated

What changed

Free patterns do not stay put. They move, they quietly go paid, they grow a signup wall, and sometimes they just vanish while the articles recommending them carry on as if nothing happened. Everything we catch goes here, with the date.

Now paid

Lizzie Tunic is no longer free

SewHQ is turning into a membership site. The pattern's address moved from /free-sewing-patterns/ to /sewing-patterns/ and the page now reads "START FOR £2.99". We had this one flagged as unconfirmed; now there is clear evidence, so it is marked as membership-only.

Free

Sorbetto confirmed free, but you need an account

This one had been sitting as Unconfirmed because the page showed both "Free Download per student" and an Add to Cart button. Seamwork has since reorganised: the page now says plainly "Download Sorbetto For Free — sign in or create a free account". Free, with a free account in the way.

Moved

Elizabeth Suzann is now ES Made by Me

The whole site moved from elizabethsuzann.com to esmadebyme.com. The old address still redirects, but we point at the new one so the link keeps working if that redirect is ever switched off.

Moved

Four more patterns changed address

Seamwork moved its catalogue to /pdf-sewing-patterns/, Love Notions dropped the size suffix from its product URL, Mood's Vallea now lives on blog.moodfabrics.com rather than the www blog path, and On The Cutting Floor dropped the www. All four still redirect, and all four now point straight at the live address.

Signup wall

Lillian Tunic now redirects straight to a login page

Confirmed what the page already suggested: you cannot reach this pattern without a SewHQ account.

Gone

Two patterns other roundups still recommend are already gone

Peppermint's tunic dress and Adelica's 1571 Summer Tunic both return 404. Neither designer took the page down quietly — the links simply rot, and the articles pointing at them were never re-checked. They stay listed here, marked as gone, so you do not waste a click.

Our mistake

We had the Boho Chic Tunic's sizes wrong

We had it down as US 10–24, which is the size range of a different pattern on the same site. The post itself never states a range; the only place the sizes appear is a measurements image, which gives US 8–20. Corrected.

Moved

Kokka moved its free tutorials to a new path

The Citrus Trees tunic dress tutorial moved from /en/craft-sewing/ to /en/recipe/. The old address still returns a permanent redirect, but we point at the new one so the link keeps working if that redirect is ever switched off.

Every check we have run

A change list only shows the weeks something happened. This shows every time we went through the whole list, including the times nothing had moved — because “we looked, and it is all still true” is the part that makes the dates on this site worth anything.

Why we bother

A roundup written in 2019 and never touched since will still tell you a pattern is free. Two of the patterns we list were already returning 404 the day we first checked them, and articles are still linking to both. Keeping a dated record is the only way the rest of this site can honestly claim to be current.

We also list our own mistakes here. If we published a wrong size range, saying so is cheaper than leaving it to be found.
